This growing family had an unfinished basement beneath their home that was full of potential, but it wasn't yet contributing anything to their everyday life. They wanted to turn that unused square footage into a welcoming lower level where their children could play, the family could gather, and friends could be entertained while adding meaningful value to the home.

The Client's Needs

The homeowners needed a bright, livable lower level with space for family activities, entertaining, a wet bar, an entertainment center, and an additional bathroom.

Our Design Priorities

1

Create Livable Space

Transform the unfinished basement into comfortable, finished square footage that gives the family room to spread out, gather, and enjoy time together.

2

Keep It Bright

Use light finishes and an intentionally bright palette to prevent the lower level from feeling dark or enclosed.

3

Add Everyday Value

Incorporate an additional bathroom and purposeful entertaining features that make the basement more useful while increasing the overall value of the home.

Living Room

The new lower-level living area was designed as a flexible gathering space where the family could relax, entertain, and give their children room to play. Built-in entertainment storage adds function while keeping the space clean and intentional, creating a comfortable backdrop for both everyday family life and time with friends.

Wet Bar

The wet bar brings a focal point to the lower level while remaining simple and approachable. White cabinetry and soft off-white surfaces are paired with deep contrast and matte black accents, while the warmth of the wood-toned flooring keeps the overall space feeling comfortable and inviting.

Bathroom

The new bathroom carries the same simple, elevated aesthetic as the rest of the lower level. Soft off-white tile and surrounding surfaces balance matte black fixtures and darker accents, creating a crisp, sophisticated space that feels especially effective within the basement setting.

A note from the owner,

"This space really became a beautiful example of how simplicity can create a strong visual impact. I love the way the wood tones of the flooring pair with the white cabinetry and matte black accents to create a calm, cool space. More than anything, it gave this family a whole new level of their home to enjoy together while adding real function and value."
